Housed in the historic Railway Institute building, the new Bathurst Rail Museum has been architecturally designed by award winning firm IDG Architects, fitted out by internationally recognised museum experts Freeman Ryan Design and constructed by Tablelands Builders, to enhance the original fabric and provide a state of the art museum.

The museum houses the largest public model train layout (size of a tennis court) in Australia, as well as a dedicated children’s space, cafe and an historic wooden carriage. A range of function and meeting spaces have also been incorporated into the design.

Bathurst Rail Museum tells the stories of the importance of rail to the development of NSW through the lives of regular people who worked, played and learned on the Railways. The Bathurst Rail Museum enhances the Museums Bathurst suite of high quality cultural facilities, attracting over 30,000 people annually.
